A small group of silver surfers are on-line again with a little help from Swan.

Image of Boyes Croft Art ClubEarlier this year the ‘never say never’ elderly residents from Boyes Croft in Great Dunmow, held an art exhibition to display the work from their Art Club run by Lena Fellman (See the full story in the Community News section).

Mark Saint, our resident web developer and an artist himself, went along to see their work, and while talking to some of the residents discovered they were having problems with their internet access.

Swan pays tribute to residents and supportive staff after recent fire

As a result of a fire at the Basildon Foyer, which provides support and accommodation for young people, several residents had to leave their homes and move to other properties within the scheme. Swan would like to thank these residents, who were calm, responsible and displayed the kind of maturity rarely portrayed in news headlines about young people.

“It’s brought everyone closer together because when something like this happens you realise everyone is there for each other. Everyone was helping each other to carry each others stuff out; residents, family, Swan staff...”, said resident Ashley O’Conner, 24.

ImageLast year 9 out of 10 children living on Swan properties in London asked us to run Summer Activities every year. Children often get bored at home during the summer school break.

Swan believes that involving kids in constructive activities is vital for their personal development, so this year we are running a summer activities programme starting from 28th July.

Richard races to support bowel cancer PDF Print

Richard Rankin of the Exmouth Estate ran the London marathonIn April 2008 former tenant Richard Rankin of the Exmouth Estate ran the London marathon, in support of the memory of his mother Milly Rankin. Milly was the Old People's Warden on the Exmouth Estate for 14 years and sadly passed away in March 2005 of Bowel Cancer.

‘Race for Life’

Swan staff Denise Creighton and Kari-Ann Waldon took part in the 5km Race for Life on Sunday 15 June at Gloucester Park, Basildon along with 4000 women.

Denise completed the course in 30 minutes and Kari-Ann ran in 38 mins and they would like to give a huge thanks to their friends and colleagues at Swan who sponsored them.

In total they raised over £300!
